COURSE DESCRIPTION
The injured runner poses a unique challenge to the physical therapist and physical therapist assistant in the diagnosis and successful management to full recovery. This day-long course will focus on regional scanning to help isolate underlying “drivers” that foster eventual symptoms and tissue failure at the inert and contractile level. Evidence-enhanced strategies incorporating manual therapy and a customized, graded exercise prescription will be demonstrated and practiced.  


COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify key structural faults in biomechanical screen contributing to a runner’s susceptibility to injury.
  • Perform a dynamic assessment of the injured runner.
  • Perform manual therapy examination and manipulation intervention of the lower quadrant.
  • Prescribe a customized, patient-centered home exercise program.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

Steve Allen is the founder of Evergreen Physical Therapy in Spokane and currently serves as clinic director at Therapeutic Associates, Inc. in Liberty Lake, Washington.  He received an MS in physical therapy from the University of Southern California, graduated from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy (NAIOMT) and currently serves on the NAIOMT board of directors. In addition, he serves as a member of the Physical Therapy Association of Washington’s Legislative Committee.

As a physical therapist at Therapeutic Associates Liberty Lake Physical Therapy, Sean Campbell specializes in running analysis, treating the injured runner, pre-op/post-op care, sports injuries, spine rehabilitation, and utilizing technology to facilitate/complement the rehabilitation process. He received his DPT from Eastern Washington University. He serves as the Communications Director for APTA’s Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy.
